6. Post-Production

Post-Production is where the editing of your video takes place.  When you are done capturing video footage, it is essential to log your video.  After it has been logged, then it can be edited with ease.

1)  Logging

  • Logging your video involves writing down the time stamps of the parts of the footage you will be using for your final product.  Additionally, write down the audio of the interviewee.
  • The process of logging video is done so that the footage will be easier to edit.  The editor will have the exact location of the shots being used; this will cut the time for editing down significantly.

2)  NLE

  • Upload the footage to the editor being used.  Depending on the length of the footage, adding more tracks for video and audio may be beneficial.
  • Match up the time stamps of your footage with your log sheet, then begin cutting your footage (Each NLE will have different locations for the cutting tool).
  • Once the footage has been cut and the extra footage has been removed, begin connecting the different pieces; as pertaining to the log sheet.

EXERCISE #3

1) Log your video

2) Use the footage captured from exercise 2 in your video editor (Any video editor is okay).  The video must be at least 5 mins in length, and include 3 different shooting techniques.

3) Upload your video in a post.

4) Choose someone else’s video to critique.  Furthermore, ask questions about each video you critique.  Yes and no questions are not acceptable.
