1) Whenever you are planning a shoot, the first thing you should do is write out a treatment; what are you shooting, who are you interviewing, and what is the subject of the package. The treatment is an outline for your package. The treatment assists the producer in evaluating the problems which may occur during the shoot.
2) The second step is to create a storyboard. The storyboard is a tool, which makes it easier for the camera operator to collect his/her shots. Below is a link to a sample storyboard template.
In each box, you should draw the scenes how you visualize them. This will make sure that when you are in the field you will know what angles need to be shot. Furthermore, it will help you capture fluid shots that fit together.
3) Writing the script is the 3rd step in pre-production process. When filming an interview, it is essential to write the questions down and map the flow of the interview.
